My Pepeha

This week is Maori language week and the Kia manawanui syndicate is learning about the Maori language using a pepeha.

MY PEPEHA

Tena kotou katoa

Ko maungarei toku maunga

Ko Tamaki taku awa

Ko manihiki pahe toku waka

Ko Tongareva toku iwi

No Cook island/Tongareva ahau

Kei panmure toku kainga inaianaei

Ko Tamaki primary school toku kura

Ko Williams toku whanau

Ko Oriatu toku matua

Ko Tereappi toku whaea

Ko Bianna Toku Ingoa

To me a Pepeha is about introducing yourself using the language maori.

A challenge for me was trying to understand what it means like the word tribe, I found out that in New zealand they call it Tribe and in the islands we call it Village or Island.
